Learn about BUGS and NATIVE PLANTS

Wondered about natural methods for “bad bug” control and the plants that are resistant to undesirable little critters? What about attracting good bugs, pollinator diversity, and how native plants fit in?

What steps can I take to transition my garden to more native plants with an ecological relationship to bugs?

BUGS! Noted entomology professor and bug expert, Bob Gillespie, will explain the roles that solitary and social wasps, solitary and social bees, sawflies, flies, beetles, moths, and butterflies play in island ecosystems.
PLANTS! Our Guemes Island native flora is more than just pretty to look at–they play an important role in everything that happens under our noses! WNPS member and landscape designer, Nan Maysen, of the NW Native Plant Society, will share the role that native plants play in our natural settings, where they can fit into our backyards, and how to go from ideas to planting.
