A few ferry ticketing questions answered, but more remain
After the meeting on May 20th, I contacted Jenn Rogers to clarify some questions about the upcoming electronic ferry ticketing system. Below are her responses.
- With all the recent data breaches, how will Anchor ensure our data is safe? What kind of security will they be using? What happens if there is a data breach? How long will our personal data be retained?
The full contract with Anchor is found here.
With regards to the privacy questions you asked, see the following Sections (11 & 12):
Here is more information on Skagit County Privacy
- If every child will now need a ticket, how will school bus/school children ticketing be handled to avoid congestion?
The ferry staff will work with the Anacortes School District to handle this without causing congestion.
- Anchor’s rates seem very high. How do they compare with other systems? Did you get multiple bids before deciding on Anchor?
Skagit County issued a competitive Request for Proposals on July 25, 2023. Anchor was the sole bidder on the system. We do not know how they compare with other systems because we only received one bid. The contract price includes software, mobile app, website integration, hardware, service, maintenance, and support.
- Will there be a full-time ferry worker working in the ticket booth? Will someone be available to answer the phone during ferry hours?
Yes, there will be a ferry worker inside the Anacortes ferry terminal ticket office for ticket sales. Yes, someone is available to answer the phone during ferry hours.
- How do you plan to address the ADA issue beyond having disabled people call the phone number provided?
Each ADA request is unique, which is why we ask riders to call and discuss accommodations with us ahead of time.
- What was the reason the electronic ticketing failed last time?
The vendor selected was not able to provide the contracted services within the timeframe they agreed to.
- Where should people address further questions and concerns?
You may email ferrycomments@co.skagit.wa.us or call Skagit County Public Works at 360-416-1400.
I urge everyone with additional questions and comments to contact Skagit Public Works at the contact info provided above.
