Our newest canine resident is Shakti, a 4-month-old chocolate lab. Shakti recently adopted Guemes local Jodi Upton.

According to Shakti, Jodi has been surprisingly easy to train. She fetches Shakti’s goat milk cookie treats, is an excellent watchperson, and is very obedient. Shakti allows Jodi to sleep in her bed and makes sure to keep her human’s feet and neck warm and cozy at night.

When she’s not supervising the Slow Loris crew, Shakti’s favorite hangout is Auntie’s place, where she and her bestie, a shepherd-lab mix named Coyote, investigate all things worth investigating–flowers and fauna, holes in the ground, things that need chewing, and the deer treat surprises. Shakti has also recently discovered the joys of splashing and may soon try dogpaddling as well.

When asked about future ambitions, Shakti said she plans to advocate to restore Guemes to its rightful name of Dog Island, as well as being an ambassador for world peace and unlimited tummy scratching.
