Remembering Bob Stickrod

Bob (Robert) Stickrod

Bob (Robert) Stickrod of Guemes Island, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, at the age of 82.

Robert Wheeler Stickrod Junior (preceded in death by parents Robert Wheeler Stickrod and Helen (née VanWinkle) Stickrod), was born in Los Angeles, California on January 25, 1941.

Bob gifted those he encountered with a smile, and a warm hello often followed by a chat. He was a thoughtful listener and a gentleman, with innate curiosity about the people and places he encountered throughout his lifetime. Coffee was a connector for him. Keep filling his cup, this meant he could linger longer. “Let’s go for a latte” meant let’s visit. He was blessed with a meticulous sense of detail and a strong intuition that led the way, he missed nothing. He was affable, fun-loving, caring, very patient and a man of integrity. He was the person you could call if you needed help.

Bob married Margaret (née Egan) on February 13,1965, they met on a blind date and married six months later. Margaret will miss his companionship of 58 years the most, he adored her. Together, on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle, they raised their two daughters, Amy and Molly who he loved deeply and found great joy in sharing their lives as they grew up. As the years went on he would welcome his two sons-in-law, Mark Williamson and Steven Urlacher to the family. Bob was a self-made man who built the life he desired for his family with his own two hands, his legacy. After he founded and managed his own business for over forty-five years, Bob and Margaret retired to their home on Guemes Island, WA where they created a beautiful garden, another love of Bob’s. The tugs and tankers in the Guemes Channel were a wonderful source of entertainment for Bob. He was a tireless cheerleader for the lives and adventures of his family, especially his grandchildren Rachel and Nolan. His love for them was unmistakable and they loved their Papa.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Margaret, daughters Amy and Molly, sons in law, Mark Williamson of (Grand Rapids, MI), Steven Urlacher of (Edmonds, WA), grandchildren, Rachel Anne and Nolan Robert Williamson of (Grand Rapids, MI). Sisters, Lynne (Charlie) Richards of Coeur d’Alene, ID and Susan (Chuck) Kirby of Post Falls, ID.

Our family would like to thank the many caregivers at University of Washington Medical Center especially Dr. John Paul Giliberto, and the Otolaryngology team, for their humanity and compassion when caring for Bob. We would also like to express our gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Golden Cottage Adult Family Home, for their kindness and loving care for Bob.

A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held at the Edmonds Yacht Club on Sunday, June, 25th 2023 at 2:00PM. We are incredibly grateful for the outpour of love and support we have received for our precious husband, father, and Papa. The calls, cards and visits mean everything to our family. Bob will forever be loved in our hearts.
