Public Works Responds To Parking Lot Crime Report
December 19: "Public Works is working closely with the Anacortes Police Department to increase and improve security in the ferry terminal parking lot. At this time, we have jointly come to a three-pronged approach, keeping in mind that it will take time and funding to address safety concerns. What we can do immediately is coordinate with the Anacortes PD to improve access to the ferry's security system. An officer will be able to actively monitor the feed which will in turn, increase response times. The goal is for the PD to have remote access to the ferry feed; this will take a bit of time to work through. Our long-term plan is to acquire newer cameras with better resolution. Public Works is actively looking for federal and/or state grants for this, and coordinating with PD and the city of Anacortes."
