Remembering Dennis O'Neil

Dennis C. O'Neil
Born to Jim and Jackie O'Neil: Jan. 28, 1952, Biloxi, MS
Died: Oct. 6, 2020

There are not words to adequately describe who Dennis was. Those who knew him will know what we have missed.

Dennis was the oldest of six siblings.  He enjoyed growing up in the 1950's in Pennsylvania with time spent in the mountains of Colorado, but he really was a 60's person with the soul of a poet and musician.  A troubadour.  He was a beloved son and BIG brother; different to each of his siblings: a rival, roommate, "the Fonz," bigger than life, a friend, and a teacher.  A nurturing and caring Uncle and Great Uncle to at least 27 nieces and nephews, he was also a hermit to his core.

Dennis attended WSU and became a Computer Services Manager (hardware) there for 18 years, then moved from Pullman to Hennepin County, Minnesota for the same position there. He moved to Guemes around 10 years ago, helping his parents and caring for their property. He enjoyed his life here and the traveling he was able to do to visit friends and make music. He appreciated his many friends.

He was a Builder, Guitar Maker, Musician, Bridge Player, Caretaker, Donkey Watcher, Good Friend, Baker, and Avid Reader.  His wit and conversations will be greatly missed.  He was pre-deceased by his father.

When I get to Heaven

When I get to heaven I'm gonna shake God's hand
Thank him for more blessings than one man can stand
Then I'm gonna get a guitar and start a Rock-n-Roll band
Check into a swell hotel, ain't the afterlife grand?!

And then I'm gonna get a cocktail, vodka and ginger ale
Yeah, I'm gonna smoke a cigarette that's 9 miles long
I'm gonna kiss that pretty girl on the Tilt-a-Whirl
'Cause this old man is going to town...
