Ferry Terminal Maintenance and Repair Project

The Ferry Terminal Maintenance & Repair Project will start June 24

Work on the Anacortes dock will take place June 24 through July 9. Work on the Guemes Island dock will take place July 10 through July 30.

The Ferry Terminal Maintenance and Repair project will begin June 24 and is anticipated to be complete by early August. Construction is scheduled to take place entirely outside of normal operating hours; therefore, regular ferry service should not be interrupted. However, after-hours emergency response between the docks with the car ferry will not be possible during most of the construction phase.*

This project will address a number of high priority repair items on both docks, including the repair of the apron gusset plates, and replacement of the counterweight cables and sheaves, apron hinge pins, and headframe handrails, among other items.

Ferry Dock Maintenance & Repair Project Announcement
Skagit County has two separate projects currently in progress for the maintenance and repair of the Anacortes and Guemes Island Ferry bridges.

Ferry Terminal Maintenance – Phase 2, is expected to begin construction June 24, 2020 and run through early August. Construction is scheduled to take place entirely outside of normal operating hours; therefore, regular ferry service should not be interrupted. However, there will be times after-hours that the car ferry will not be available for emergency response.
This project will address a number of items on both docks, including the repair of the apron gusset plates, and replacement of the counterweight cables and sheaves, apron hinge pins, and headframe handrails, among other items.

The Ferry Dock Rehabilitation project is currently in the design phase, with permitting in progress now. Construction is scheduled for 2020-2021. This project will replace three concrete girders that Skagit County was not able to replace during the dock reconstruction in 2011. These girders are located under the NE corner of the dock, well outside of the area where vehicular traffic drives. These three girders are the main factor in the lower sufficiency rating given to the Anacortes dock.
