Regular Commissioner Meeting

February 10, 2020

Commissioner Margeson called the Regular Fire Commissioners meeting to order at 7:00 pm. 

Present: Commissioners Margeson, and Crawford, Chief Francis, Treasurer Davelaar,

The minutes of January 13, 2020 were unanimously approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Beginning January Operating Fund cash balance was $66,395.40. Beginning January General Investment Fund balance was $11,960.02.  Beginning January Capital Fund cash balance was $72,844.83. Beginning January Capital Investment Fund balance was $33,788.68. Grand total is $184,988.93.

January expenses were $3,503.61.  Payroll for January was $3,025.58, and VFF stipends were $1,470.00 for a grand total of $7,999.19 in January expenditures. 

January revenue included $596.98 in taxes collected, $900.00 in donations, and $17.10 in interest. Total January revenue was $2,341.06.

District 17 Commissioners reviewed and approved the Treasurer’s Report, invoices, and firefighter stipends at their February 10, 2020 public meeting. Commissioner Crawford made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report, and Commissioner Margeson seconded; motion was approved unanimously.

Chief’s Report: See attached report for a list of drills and responses. 

Guemes Island Fire Department is providing a public CPR/AED class on April 18, 2020. The cost will be $35 per person. More information will be provided next month.

GIFD has a new recruit interest. Kelley McAlister has been provided an application to join.

GIFD has purchased a new stair chair. 

Old Business: Secretary/Medical Officer Kankaala plans to contact the Board of Volunteer Firefighters of Washington State and the Skagit County EMS office for guidance on best practices for volunteer fire departments with dealing with diesel exhaust exposure. Secretary/Medical Officer Kankaala plans to present his findings at the April GIFD Commissioners meeting.

Property search- nothing to report.

New Business:  None.
