Remembering Alice Shoultz

Alice Lorene Shoultz, 88, of Anacortes, entered heaven’s gates on January 20, 2018, passing away surrounded by love in her Guemes Island farmhouse during hospice care.

She was born in Swan, MO, on March 30, 1929, the daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Wilcher) Hobbs. Alice was a beloved wife, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

She met the love of her life, Marvin Shoultz, and they would be celebrating 68 blessed years of marriage this February. Alice was a proud farmer’s wife and was well known for being an excellent cook. She enjoyed making meals for large family gatherings and friends. Alice loved reading large collections of cookbooks rather than a novel before bed. She was an avid knitter of many things including baby blankets, and hats for cancer patients.

Alice provided many friends and visitors with fresh vegetables from her abundant garden and adored working in it, her flower beds, and feeding her humming birds. Her laugh and her sweet smile will be greatly missed. Alice has gone home, following her parents, Thomas and Dorothy, beloved brother, Melvin Dow Hobbs, who was lost at sea serving in World War II aboard the USS INDIANAPOLIS, sister, Mildred Watkins and other family members in Heaven. She is survived by her husband, Marvin; daughters, Carol Deach and Phyllis Shoultz. Alice leaves behind a legacy of 7 grandchildren, Rebecca Bonno, Keith Merrick, Brian Merrick, Simon Duperron, Amanda Joseph, Marnie Deach and Tom Deach, and 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Wheeler and Modena Standley.

The family will celebrate her life at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Alice, please sign the online guest register at
