GIPAC: Draft Minutes for Jan 8, 2018

Draft Minutes for the January 8, 2018 Meeting

Guemes Island Planning Advisory Committee

Meeting was called to order by Chairman Hal Rooks at 6:35pm.  Present were board members Hal Rooks, Allen Bush, Michael Brown, Patty Rose, Edith Walden, Steve Orsini, Nancy Fox, and Board Emeritus Gary Curtis.  Also present were Barb Ohms, Michael Gray, Marianne Kooiman, Mark Madden and Sally Stapp.

It was moved and seconded to approve the draft agenda, which was approved on a voice vote.

Treasurer’s report – GIPAC checking account is $2681.18, with .21 interests.  Roz Glasser Bequest account is $10,511.28, with 3.93 interest.

Discussion of Nancy Fox’s work plan for 2018 – It was agreed that GIPAC (Nancy and Edith) will finish editing and get it back to the board members in a week.  The plan includes inventorying the code so GIPAC can better communicate with the county, sitting down with the new planning director to discuss our planned code amendment suggestions.  It was moved and seconded to move forward on the plan put forth by Nancy, Hal and Edith.

Michael Brown gave an update on the coffee klatch idea.  Using the executive summary of GIPAC’s work plan, Michael will identify 2-3 possible hosts and get them booked for the springtime.  It was suggested that we make sure GIPAC targets all areas of the island.

Update on the Aquifer Recharge area – Steve Orsini contacted the Dept. of Ecology for references GIPAC may utilize in determining where our recharge area is and how much water is getting down to the aquifer each rainy season.  GIPAC realizes that in order to determine how much water the island can draw from the aquifer depends on how much gets recharged.  Steve agreed to follow up with Chris Martin, at the NW office of the Dept. of Ecology.

Shoreline Restoration – Patty Rose gave the board an update on the Peach Preserve planting program and the native plant sale.  Plants have been ordered for the Peach Preserve for a March 3rd planting party.  $200+/- will be used for this project.  Rob Roy from the San Juan Island Preservation Trust will be here to help.   The native plant sale order ends January 15th, for delivery sometime in February.

Allen Bush gave GIPAC an update on ferry replacement developments.

Hal Rooks adjourned the meeting at 8:25pm.
