Kids and Kids

Islanders Gary and Donna Davis are happy to have three new “grand kids” this year.  They are Fidelma, Fletcher and Faye. Fletcher is shown here getting acquainted with Caspian and Lulu Goe.

The four legged kids are La Mancha goats. This breed is easily identified by their “gopher ears”. The American Dairy Goat Association has a registry, and each goat is identified by a tattoo. The first character of the tattoo changes each year, progressing through the alphabet, to help identify the age of the goat, and the letter of the alphabet for 2015 is “F”.  Often large dairies will name all the kids born in a particular year with names starting with the tattoo letter for their birth year. The Davis herd is very small, and there is no chance of confusion over who’s who, but it was still fun to come up with “F” names that suited the kids.
