Guemes Island Property Owners Association Board Meeting Minutes February 6, 2010

President Howard Pellett called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m.

In attendance: Gil Anderson, Harry Finks, Bob Groeschell, Anne Jackets, Carol Pellett, Howard Pellett, Shelby Platt, Rob Schroder

The minutes of the December 12, 2009, meeting were approved as written.

The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented. A donation of $250 from Guemes Connects and other donations in memory of Betty Crookes totalling $l,350 increased the balance of the Guemes Gold Scholarship account to $5,978.81.

Old business:

  • North Sound Alliance: No board member has indicated personal interest in involvement with the organization. Minimum dues for membership are $750, although we have been allowed to participate with a nominal contribution. Howard Pellett will continue his involvement for now, and the subject was tabled.

  • Firework sign: The sign has not yet been replaced.

  • Sustainable Guemes: Howard Pellett reported that no new teams have been established. He told of personal steps Carol and he were taking to reduce their carbon input. The Beat the Heat group will present at Soup Supper on February 23. The Community Garden Project is not going forward.

  • Guemes Gold Scholarship: The process will begin in the coming months. Betty Crookes’s family has thanked those who contributed, Anne Jackets asked that Sue Rombeek continue to be involved with the scholarship committee.

  • Guemes entry sign: This subject was tabled. After the landing issues settle down and the summer Guemes Guide Comes Alive Fair, the subject can be revisited.

  • Guemes Guide Comes Alive Fair: Bob Groeschell, Shelby Platt, Gil Anderson, and Howard Pellett had met. The committee will meet directly following this meeting to think of whom to ask to represent various island organizations.

  • GIPOA public meeting with Sheriff’s representatives: This meeting was a real success. Approximately 45 attended. The program presented by Chief Deputy Tom Molitor and Sgt. Jennifer Sheahan-Lee was helpful and appreciated. (See LineTime for detailed notes.) Jennifer is very willing to return to help develop a neighborhood watch program. She will be invited to participate in the Guemes Guide Comes Alive Fair.

Other:

  • Anne Jackets said that the plant sale is coming up. Should GIPOA or GICCA consider sponsoring it as a fund-raiser this year? Howard Pellett will talk with Harry Finks.

  • Rob Schroder wishes the sheriff’s department would do something to address speeding on the hill in front of the Community Hall. He will contact the sheriff’s office. Howard Pellett said that GIPOA could perhaps help with this if it needs support.

  • Howard Pellett reminded the board that members should be thinking if they wish to submit their names for re-election. Citizen of the Year nominations. need to be considered as well. This will be on the April agenda.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:25 a.m.
