Historical Society: A Child of Guemes

Michele Lesmeister: A Child of Guemes

You're invited to attend the Guemes Island Historical Society's meeting on July 8th, 7pm at the Guemes Island Church. This month's speaker will be Michele (Benjamin) Lesmeister, daughter of Max and Teresa Benjamin.

Michelle says “Growing up on Guemes Island offered a childhood like none other. I will reminisce in a public way about the life we experienced, offer some insights about some of the changes I was involved in, and share some aha moments.... At the time, we were in the midst of many changes locally, statewide, and nationally; the times were interesting.”

Michele lived on Guemes from 1959 though the 1970s and then returned to the island more and more steadily as time passed, eventually building a cabin in 2005.

Don't miss the opportunity to welcome Michele and hear a first hand account of this fascinating era of Guemes Island History.

The GIHS monthly business meeting will begin at 5:45pm prior to the presentation. All are welcome to attend and participate. Remember to mark your calendars. Hope to see you there.
