Beach Watcher’s Lecture: Anemones & Coral Reefs
2010 Beach Watcher’s Lecture Series
What Can Puget Sound Sea Anemones Teach Us About Bleaching of Tropical Coral Reefs?
Dr Brian Bingham, Professor, Western Washington University
Department of Environmental Sciences, Shannon Point Marine Center
What is coral bleaching and what role do algae play? The aggregating sea anemone, Anthopleura elegantissima, is helping us understand the symbiotic relationship between algae and their coral host. Come hear about ongoing research into the ecology of this amazing intertidal anemone common to our local waters. They’re teaching us important lessons about symbiosis and the impacts of environmental stress.
All lectures are free to the public and open to all ages.
This series is co-sponsored by Friends of Skagit Beaches.
